Priorities
Protecting Our Roots. Preserving Our Future.
Frank Mastromattei
Priorities
Ward 4 comprises strong and unique communities, including Schomberg, Lloydtown, and Pottageville. As our township continues to evolve, I believe we need to protect the character, heritage, environment, and sense of community that make these areas special, while planning responsibly for the future.
Thoughtful Planning & Community Character
Residents want to preserve the character, heritage, and rural identity that make our communities unique. Ward 4 cannot continue to absorb planning decisions without infrastructure and traffic impacts being properly addressed first.
- Respects the scale and character of our communities
- Protects green space and heritage
- Aligns with infrastructure and long-term sustainability
- Reflects the voices and concerns of residents
Agriculture & Environmental Stewardship
Agriculture is a major part of King Township’s identity. We are steadily losing farmland, and protecting agriculture must remain a priority for future generations.
- Supporting long-term agricultural sustainability
- Protecting farmland and rural landscapes
- Protecting the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan
- Encouraging responsible access to trails and nature
- Supporting conversations around agricultural innovation
Infrastructure, Transportation & Accessibility
Traffic congestion in areas like Main Street, Schomberg, has become increasingly challenging and must be addressed before additional strain is placed on infrastructure.
- Addressing ongoing traffic and infrastructure concerns
- Ensuring infrastructure keeps pace with planning
- Exploring practical transit and connectivity solutions
- Supporting modern infrastructure like EV charging
Connecting Generations & Community Engagement
Strong communities are built when generations stay connected and involved in shaping the future together through stronger partnerships.
- Preserve and share local history and heritage
- Encourage community involvement and volunteerism
- Create welcoming opportunities for younger residents to share ideas
Supporting Local Business & Community Vitality
Small businesses are an important part of our local identity. We need to do a better job supporting vibrant and locally focused business communities.
- Strengthening and revitalizing local business
- Encouraging community events and partnerships
- Keeping our main street areas active and welcoming
Housing & Community Affordability
Affordability is becoming a growing concern. Future housing discussions must reflect the realities facing people in our communities today.
- Housing options that fit community character and scale
- Thoughtful conversations around affordability
- Well-designed housing aligned with services
- Planning for aging population needs
